Who we are
The Sailing Club at UWM(SCUWM, for short) is a student-based cooperative organization that has been in existence for nearly thirty years.
While a student organization, the club is open to UWM faculty and staff and members of the community, i.e. you don't have to be a student to
join..
SCUWM is a separate entity, as are all student organizations at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The Club governs itself by the protocols required
by the University, of a responsible student organization. Although the Club's operation is essentially recreational, it has a defined mission of
providing instruction to all UWM students. The size of the Club varies from year to year, but our membership usually 80-100 members. As a
cooperative organization, SCUWM depends entirely on the volunteer efforts and work of its members to maintain its fleet and run day-to-day
operations as well as special events.
Our Sailing season
"Boats in" is usually at the end of April and "Boats Out" is one of the last weekends in October. Weather permitting, instruction is offered and
members have access to the boats throughout the full six months.
In favorable cases, we may even leave one boat in the water throughout November for recreational sailing.
