Announcements and Upcoming events:
Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know I have spent an tremendous amount of time sailing this summer and now our season is coming to an end. For the past 10 years Milwaukee sailors have been closing the season with Louie’s Last Regatta. This will be the 11th year of this great tradition. The purpose of this regatta is to raise money for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. In this challenging economy Children’s has not been exempt from economic pressure, many pay cuts have been handed out and projects terminated because of the lack of funding for such and important cause.
Please join me and REDRUM (Mount Gay 30) as we work to raise $25,000 for the children! At the below website you will be able to find a complete story of this cause and securely donate.

Bring you boats, bring your friends and join us for a wonderful celebration for Louie’s Last Regatta on Saturday, September 26th with racing on Lake Michigan and a spectacular party afterwards at the Milwaukee Ale House!
Have a wonderful fall!
Cheers,
Ashley Henderson

Interested in gaining experience sailing on a soling?
Meet
with Fleet Capt. Jon Klemp on Wednesdays, beginning Wed. Sept 2nd, at 10am.
The goal is to introduce members to sailing skills for an eventual
soling (not solo) rating. Those interested could also become involved
in racing solings.

Sailors,
In the upcoming weeks there will be continued events taking place at the Lakefront during which the County will be charging a parking fee of $10 in Veterans park.
Sailing Club members will only be let through to the Sailing center parking lot without paying that fee if they carry their membership card with them.
Most of you should have received that card in the mail a few weeks ago. For those who joined after that time, I am willing to print extra card on an individual basis if you request them. You can contact me during most weekdays in my office in the Chemistry Department on the UWM campus at 414-229-5896 or be e-mail to arrange to pick up a card. TO my knowledge, Dianne Dagelen also has a set of blank cards.
To find out about closures and fee days, check our web page at http://scuwm.org/closures.html

Due to the slow influx of new members at this time of the year we are not offering regulaily scheduled rigging classes for new members.
If you are in need of a rigging class contact our instructors at scuwm_instructors@uwm.edu to let us know that you need a rigging class. Include some dates/times which will work for you. You can also contact an instructor who posted a lesson directly to find out whether they are willing to do a rigging class prior to their lesson or as part of their lesson.
If you have trouble scheduling a rigging class, contact our instruction chair at paterick@bluebottle.com
Ahoy Sailors
Hope everyone is having a good time on the lake! Here’s more info regarding our 3rd July event:

- If you all can carpool and

- Arrive before 5pm unless you are biking or plan on parking somewhere else. I was told that Lincoln Memorial Dr is closed to all traffic around 6pm.
- In case you can’t park or get to dockbox thru usual way, you can call me on my cell phone -- 414-807-8406 and we can arrange to pick you up from say Milw Yacht Club by dinghy.
- I got some replies back as to who plans to attend and I thank you for that. Please let me know if you plan on attending and if you would be requiring a parking pass.

Sailors,
the server hosting our webpage at UWM will be retired later this year.
Unfortunately the new replacement system lacks some of the capability to
run some of the applications we rely on (like the online signup and
membership list.
In order to avoid disrupting our operation in the middle of the season it
was decided to move the Sailing Club web page temporarily to my server in
the chemistry department.
At this point all data have been transferred to the new server at
hal.chem.uwm.edu/sailclub
As the next step in the transition all interactive features on the old
site (online signup, membership list and membership application) have been
replaced with links to the new page.
The next step will be UWM disabling the old site and replacing it with a
redirect to the new location. I will also update our domain scuwm.org to
the new location. So if you bookmarked our site using www.scuwm.org,
there is nothing you have to change.
Once I had a chance to check out the new server at UWM, and we finished
our sailing season, I will decide which parts of our web page can be
transferred to the new system.
Dear Sailing Club members, Effective May 1, 2009 the Sailing Club at UWM will have new membership rates.
See http://www.scuwm.org/newfees.html for the new rates. (You might encourage your would-be sailor friends to join before May 1st.)
Due to new liability release and emergency contact requirements, all members are asked to complete a new Membership Application. If no membership fees are currently due. Print: "No $ due / Exp. Date:_____" on the rate chart.
There will be new membership forms at Boats In. If you can print off the first page of this attachment, complete the form and bring it to Boats In, that would be helpful.
New Rates:
Essentially, new and returning members will be paying a higher rate ($40 more) to reflect the higher cost of new members, while continuing member rates will increase by only $5. However, continuing members who last year completed at least 20 hours of recorded volunteer work can renew at a reduced rate ($30 less). And those with more than 50 hours of recorded volunteer work last year can rejoin for $25.
Reason for new rates:
The Board’s intention is for the club to be more fairly compensated for the cost of new members, especially those taking sailing lessons. It is also the Board’s intention to encourage continued club membership and active participation. We are a volunteer organization, and thereby rely on the work and energy of our members for our club’s continued positive impact on promoting the Milwaukee sailing community in a safe and fun environment.

Sailors!
I hope everyone is doing great.
As the summer draws (yeah I know!) near we were thinking of getting
everyone together for a bowling event. This would be a nice opportunity
for everyone to get together and exchange their winter adventures and
plans for summer -- ofcourse that would involve a lot of sailing, I hope.
The bowling event will be next saturday - Feb 28th from 6 pm on. We will
have beverages and food to keep us busy along with bowling. We plan to go
bowling at Landmark Lanes on Farewell Ave ( I can send more details
later).
It looks like roughly $10 per person for bowling. Food +
beverages would be extra.
Please email me if you will be joining me along with number of guests you
might be bringing along! I hope to see all the sailors BOWL!
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
